Annual Jim Gardner Lecture. The speaker is Dr John Wilson, and his topic Local Lives: Recovering an Addington Community, a report on his recent exploration of the history of Addington, its people, industries and institutions. The lecture will illustrate Dr Wilson's ideas about the place of local history in our society.

The Jim Gardner Lecture is also the occasion for the award of the 2008 Rhodes History Medal.

Dr John Wilson was the inaugural recipient of the Rhodes Medal, and began his Addington research when he received the Community Historian grant in 2006.

2.30pm in the auditorium of the Christchurch Girls' High School. A gold coin donation is welcomed.
